The Construction of BMCC
Collection Description
The Construction of BMCC is an online exhibit that features 89 photographs from the time when the Borough of Manhattan Community College was built.
Plans for the new building were first announced in 1968 and Mayor Abraham D. Beame broke ground six years later. Due to a municipal fiscal crisis in the late 1970s construction was halted until late 1980. Three years later, in 1983, it was under Mayor Edward Koch's administration that the new building opened at its present location on Chambers Street.
