The William Hone Collection at Adelphi University
Collection Description
William Hone (1780-1842) was a popular and influential political satirist, pamphleteer, publisher and bookseller in early nineteenth century London. He was deeply committed to radical political reform, to the extent that three of his pamphlets brought a government prosecution against him. Hone proved his innocence and emerged a public hero and champion of freedom of the press. This collection of his works was acquired in 1993 through a gift from The Friends of Adelphi University Library, Inc. and a bequest from the Helene and Josephine Lewinsohn Estate.
